A Brief History of
Northside Baptist Church
Princeton, Kentucky
The First Baptist Church of Princeton, Kentucky purchased the
International Harvester Company Building and property located on the corner of
Dawson Road and Madisonville Street. The property was purchased with the
intent of beginning a new church. In the next 31 days, the building was
repaired and was made ready to move into. A revival was held on April 10,
1949. On May 8, 1949, members met in the building and elected Sunday School
officers for that year. pastor of the new church was to be Bro. H.G.M. Hatler
and the Sunday School Director was Mr. Gorman Mitchell. On May 15, 1949, the
first Sunday School classes were held with 45 present. On September 4, 1949
under the direction of Bro. Hatler, Northside Baptist Church was organized
with 77 charter members. On January 8, 1950, Bro. Irvin Parrett became the
first pastor of the new church. Construction of the first church building
began May 5, 1951 and was completed in November of that year at a cost of
$35,000. This first Sanctuary, now called the Hatler Building, is located on
the corner of the original property.
In 1985, construction began on the second sanctuary, where
Northside currently holds services. This construction project included the
building of offices, bathrooms, choir room, and sanctuary.
In recent years, Northside added the Recreational Outreach Center (R.O.C.)
to allow for additional ministries, such as Upward cheerleading and basketball.
Some Sunday School classes also meet in the R.O.C. The R.O.C. is used for
socials and churchwide events. Outreach events such as Camo Night has become
possible due to the building of this third structure.
Northside Baptist Church is a church who shares Christ with the
community and area in and around Princeton, Kentucky. We do whatever it takes to
make disciples of Christ.
